System components

BrainLit Elven™ (and Uven™) systems considers thousands of luminaires, users and sensors, putting significant requirements on system and algorithm capability, optimization, latency and accuracy. All components meet the highest quality demands in all aspects. 

Light Control System

The LCS is the controller of the lighting system with hardware running Brainlit’s software handling input from peripherals such as sensors, keypads and touch screens. The system controls the luminaire output according to BCL recipes together with input from peripherals. The BCL system is conveniently scaleable. Multiple connected LCSs can be linked in a larger dynamically configured BCL system sharing input from peripherals. The LCS easily integrates with building automation systems such as A/V systems, fire alarms and other sensor technologies.

SOFTWARE

Recipes

The BCL recipes represents ”the intelligence” in the BCL system, prescribing and specifiying the light each luminaire emits at any point in time. The BCL recipe AutoLit is the default recipe designed to fit most people in their normal daily environment, based on a normal day with sunrise at 7am and sunset at 5.30pm automatically adapting the dynamic light to business and activity. Other BCL recipes such as Boost, Efficient, Relax and Lounge are available in the BrainLit library. Another feature is the possibility to have light scenes configured for special needs, i.e. for presentation mode. The variation of the spectral composition in BCL recipes promote the natural circadian rhythm by primarily stimulating the production of the hormones cortisol and melatonin when needed during the day.

Light profiles

The user expects an instant response on user commands, such as the on/off switch when leaving or entering a room. In contrast, a natural light environment is expected to change unnoticeably across the day. Sudden changes are immediately noticed. BrainLit’s system uses sensors to characterize and track the light users are exposed to and how this impacts related health parameters with the user. The sensor data is used to adjust light exposure to user needs and over time to tune light recipes to short and long term match the user’s target light profile.

HARDWARE

Sensors, Keypads and Touch panels

The motion sensor perceives movement enabling automatic light on and off. It allows the BCL system to handle short term activities in a room, reducing the time when lighting is on and thus energy consumption. When sensors do not perceive motion, the lighting will slowly be dampened to make the users aware that the lighting will soon be turned off. Many types of motion and other sensors can be used with the BrainLit lighting system, with at least one motion sensor installed in each room recommended. Sensors can measure information to allow the system to generate the target light settings, user light exposure data, user health and wellbeing and user activity data. 

BCL light settings can also be adjusted through keypads and touch panels according to user needs. Wall mounted keypads allow flexible configuration. They feature engraved text with backlight and LED indicator, allowing clear and visual feedback on light scenes. 

Touch panels offers an ideal user interface for controlling BrainLit’s systems. The graphics allow for easy-to-use controls with true feedback and real-time status display. The touch screen has a multi zone support where you can control all of the BrainLit areas, making it ideal for installation in receptions or central places in the office.

Luminaires

BrainLit luminaires are designed to provide light for health with all luminaires providing a very wide range of circadian impact. All BrainLit luminaires comply with the toughest flicker standards and embrace the black body curve with exceptional color rendering while dimming smoothly all the way to 0.1 %. These characteristics in combination with high luminance enables BrainLit ́s control system to mimic daylight indoors needed to synchronize our internal clock, promoting sleep at night and making us more alert and awake during daytime. That is how BioCentric Lighting™ improves health, safety and productivity. The full BrainLit luminaire portfolio can be used with any LCS generation. Older LCS generations can be retrofitted with BrainLit’s newly developed and designed luminaires.
